This specimen has once been designated as the neotype for Camellia sinensis (L.) Ktze. subsp. busisanensis (Sasaki) Lu & Yang by Lu & Yang (1987) in Quart. J. Chin. For. 20(1):101-107. However, Su et al. (2004) proposed another taxonomic treatment of C. buisanensis in Taiwania 49(3): 201-208. They designated a neotype for Pyrenaria buisanensis (Sasaki) C. F. Hsieh, S. Z. Yang & M. H. Su (K. T. Lee and Y. K. Wu s. n., TAI 253017), which may have replaced the neotype status of this specimen.
